Check from the ground first

- Dented or bent vents, flashing, or gutters (a sign of hail or debris)
- Tree limbs or debris resting on the roof
Check inside your home
Some of the clearest signs of roof damage show up indoors. Look for water stains on ceilings or walls, damp spots or daylight in the attic, and wet or compressed insulation. A musty smell after a storm can also point to hidden moisture.
Don’t climb up yourself
